MSU nursing leader will help guide Sparrow’s future
LANSING, Mich. — James W. Butler III, chairman of the Sparrow Health System Board of Directors, is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Barbara Given, PhD, RN, FAAN, University Distinguished Professor, to the Sparrow Health System Board of Directors.
Given, of Okemos, currently serves as associate dean of research for the College of Nursing at Michigan State University. Her research and contributions to the nursing profession have won her various awards, including the Life Time Achievement Award, College of Nursing Alumni Association, and the Elizabeth McWilliams-Miller Award for Excellence in Research.
Given is married to C. William Given and has one grown son.
Since its inception in 1896, all the people who have served on Sparrow’s governing boards have been volunteers, people who donate time and expertise to help guide the future course of the organization. Today, Sparrow, mid-Michigan’s only community-owned, community-governed health care provider, continues to be governed by people from our region who volunteer their service for the benefit of others.
