East Lansing, MI – Sparrow’s Michigan Athletic Club Dance Academy will be recognized at the National Club Industry Conference for the Best of the Best Children’s Program Winner of 2009.
The program, directed by Dance Coordinator Tracy Holtzer, and supervised by Leslie Polack, Group Fitness Manager, offered children ages 6 to 12 several times during the summer a week of singing, dancing and acting based on the popular “High School Musical” series. “I designed this program to increase awareness about the dance academy as well as to combine popular culture with the performing arts. Artistic expression through movement is shown to improve a child’s cognitive, social and team-building skills” said Holtzer. “When parents would bring their children each day, they would comment on how this camp has topped the charts in excitement level and anticipation for their child(ren).”
The camp concludes with a final performance at the end of the week showcasing each child’s talent. Leslie Polack stated, “We are so lucky to have found a niche in which parents and children alike can participate. The children memorize lines with the help of parents and you can see how proud the parents are when their child’s face lights up during the performance.”
Other instructors that helped organize and run the camp included Micha Hickey, Melissa Morelli and Caitlin Quattrone. The number of participants grew each month the program was offered from 15 the first month to 28 on the last month.
“We’re excited to receive national recognition”, said Chris Hull, the MAC’s Director of Operations. “It’s another endorsement to the world-class programs and activities offered at the MAC”.
The award will be bestowed at the National Club Industry’s annual conference in Chicago on October 16.
