Sparrow welcomes acclaimed pediatric surgeon to medical staff, 9/8/2009


Juda Jona, M.D., joins Sparrow Children’s Center

LANSING, Mich. — Pediatric surgeon Juda Jona, M.D., has joined the medical staff of Sparrow Hospital. Dr. Jona comes to Sparrow after more than a decade at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in Chicago where he served as Chief of Pediatric Surgery.

“Sparrow is excited to welcome to mid-Michigan a physician with the skill, talent and experience of Dr. Jona,” said Steve Guertin, M.D., medical director of the Sparrow Children’s Center. “Our region’s youngest patients and their families will benefit greatly from Dr. Jona’s expertise. We are delighted to have him join the staff of the Sparrow Children’s Center.”

Dr. Jona received his medical degree and internship from the University of Texas Medical Branch – Galveston. He completed his residency in surgery at Northwestern University Hospitals and the Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. After serving for many years at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Dr. Jona returned to Chicago in 1995 to join the staff of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare and Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Jona will join the medical staff of Sparrow’s multi-specialty pediatric clinic in Suite 460 of the Sparrow Professional Building, 1200 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing. The clinic’s phone number is 517-364-5490.

In 2005 Dr. Jona received the 2005 March of Dimes Jonas Salk Health Leadership Award for his exceptional leadership and outstanding contribution to improving premature and infant health. Dr. Jona is also considered an international authority on the laparoscopic pull-though procedure for Hirschsprung’s Disease and other congenital neonatal anomalies.
