15 students pursuing health careers earn $1,000 scholarships
Clinton County students pursuing healthcare careers recently received a little help building their college funds from the Clinton Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Under the Merten and Geraldine Whyman Health Careers Scholarship Fund, the Clinton Memorial Hospital Foundation granted $1,000 scholarships to 15 area high school and college students.
Each applicant’s academic record, community service, leadership and personal achievements were carefully reviewed prior to selection. Applicants also were asked to write a brief essay about why they deserve the scholarship and how, as a healthcare professional, they can make a difference in the health status of the people of mid-Michigan.
The following high school students were named 2009 Wyman Scholars:
- Mehgan DeSander, St. Johns
- RaeLynne Ferden, St. Johns
- Mychael Horak, Elsie
- Kelly Ketchum, DeWitt
- Amber Koenigsknecht, Fowler
- Alaina Martin, Ovid
- Amber Pung, St. Johns
- Alyssa Tarrant, Bath
The following college students were named 2009 Wyman Scholars:
- Megan Henning, St. Johns
- Paul Johnson, Laingsburg
- Julie Johnson, Laingsburg
- Elizabeth Moore, St. Johns
- Megan Murphy, Grand Ledge
- Ashley Oswald, Eagle
- Angela Zell, St. Johns
The Merten and Geraldine Whyman Health Careers Scholarship Fund, an endowment fund established in 1986, provides annual scholarships for education in a health-related field to Clinton County residents. Thanks to additional contributions by community members, the fund has grown to provide even more scholarship opportunities. To date, 185 students have received Whyman scholarships, totaling $167,600 in grant funds.
