Help for new moms at CCH,

Julane Belcher, R.N., recently passed the exam offered by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners to become a Certified Lactation Specialist (CLS). Belcher is a nurse in the Carson City Hospital Obstetrics Department, and the hospital’s first CLS.
Belcher attended a week-long educational course in Chicago, during which she learned how to use appropriate counseling skills, how to teach mothers and families about breastfeeding, and, most importantly, how to function hands-on as a clinician.
“We are so happy to have Julane here to help new mothers navigate through the sometimes confusing process of learning to happily breastfeed their babies,” said Carson City Hospital’s Obstetrics Department Nurse Manager Shelly Betancourt, BSN, RNC. “It makes our new mothers so much more comfortable to have someone here that is an expert in this area.”
