Dr. Valenzuela is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine. Upon earning his medical degree, he started General Surgery Residency at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and completed General Surgery Residency at Sinai Hospital of Detroit. He was accepted to the Plastic Surgery Residency program at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, where he received a well-rounded training with extensive experience in surgery of the hand, congenital deformities in children, aesthetic surgery, and reconstructive surgery for cancer and trauma. He spent his eighth year of post-graduate training as the Amelia Brown Frazier Microsurgery Fellow at the University of Louisville.
In 1987, Dr. Valenzuela joined the medical staff at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. In 1988, he opened his private practice in Southport. In 1990, he passed his Certification exam and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He served as Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Service of Methodist Hospital from 1997 to 2000, during the transition period resulting from the creation of Clarian Health.
Dr. Valenzuela has been a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons for many years. He is an active member of the Ohio Valley Society for Plastic Surgeons, the International Society for Burn Injuries, The Indiana State Medical Association, and the Indianapolis Medical Society. He enjoys hospital privileges at Methodist Hospital, Community Hospitals North, East and South, Saint Francis Hospitals, Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Indiana, and at Hendricks Regional Hospital in Danville.
